Aberdeen business leader to share entrepreneurial journey at public lecture

Thursday 24 October 2019

Judith Thorpe
The co-founder of an award-winning Aberdeen recruitment agency will share her experience and insight and offer advice from her impressive business career at an event at 红杏视频.

Judith Thorpe will discuss her entrepreneurial journey, which started at just 24 years old, with an audience at the latest 红杏视频 Innovation Masterclass on Monday, October 28.

The Innovation Masterclasses are an opportunity to hear from inspiring guest speakers who will share their stories and experiences from the world of entrepreneurship. They are part of a suite of initiatives launched by 红杏视频 designed to embed entrepreneurship and innovation across the university and promote entrepreneurship as a career choice to stimulate economic development.

After graduating with a business degree from Heriot Watt, Judith left her successful job with a national recruitment firm to establish a local specialist agency with Karen Molloy. Their entrepreneurial spirit and strong friendship forged a business partnership which has endured for over 20 years.

Not one to rest on her laurels, her aspiration for Thorpe Molloy Recruitment is to double the turnover within the next three years, and to continue to raise the standard for best recruitment practice.

Judith commented: 鈥淎s a young woman with no real management experience getting funding was challenging.  However, I was good at sales and business development and we quickly built up a loyal client base, achieving a turnover of 拢300,000 in our first year of trading.

鈥淲e鈥檝e been in business over 22 years now and looking back, I鈥檇 tell my younger self to prepare for success, setbacks and a life of continual learning. In support of Women鈥檚 Entrepreneurship week I鈥檓 delighted to share the insights and professional experiences which have taught me the most throughout my career.鈥

Judith and her partner鈥檚 commitment to excellence in the recruitment industry was recognised by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation when they were awarded Business Leaders of the Year in 2009.  Despite many other accolades the award which means the most to her is the Northern Star for Customer Service Excellence, as it reflects the team鈥檚 ethos to consistently deliver the best service possible.

Judith is currently a board member for Developing the Young Workforce North East, an ambassador for the Sandpiper Trust, a qualified Executive Coach and a mentor.
