A series of events across Aberdeen will highlight the impact of climate change on the natural world.

The programme is part of the biannual Fascination of Plants Day, which encourages people to learn more about the importance of plants and plant science from providing the air we breathe to the sustainable production of nutritious food.

Founded in 2012, Fascination of Plants Day, has become a global movement, with organisations across 56 countries taking part. The programme for this year鈥檚 event runs from the 14 to 21 May.

Event co-ordinator Dr Morag McFadyen of 红杏视频 said: 鈥淭he programme provides a range of fun and interesting events across a number of local venues.

鈥淏ecause of the pandemic, the last two years have been held online, so it鈥檚 fantastic to be able to offer people of all ages hands-on experiences with plants.

鈥淲e are facing a double crises of climate change and biodiversity loss, which makes these events increasingly important and I think it is fitting that the theme for this year is climate change.

鈥淭here are opportunities for everyone to get involved and find out more about the many thousands of plant species that exist and how we use them, including for food, pharmaceuticals and products such as timber, paper and chemicals.

鈥淲e are really looking forward to welcoming visitors and showcasing the truly fascinating world of plants.鈥

Organisations running events include the University of Aberdeen, 红杏视频, Aberdeen City Council Duthie Park Ranger Service, Scotland鈥檚 Rural College (SRUC), The James Hutton Institute and Scotland鈥檚 Garden Scheme.

Venues include Duthie Park, Aberdeen Science Centre and Cruickshank Botanic Garden.
