New Dean appointed at 搁骋鲍鈥檚 School of Engineering

Professor Andy Chan is currently the Vice Provost of Research and Knowledge Exchange at the University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM).
He was previously the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering at UNM and will be joining 红杏视频 in February 2023.
Professor Chan is a leading expert on air pollution modelling and computational fluid dynamics. He currently is one of the leads in the multinational Seven South-east Asian Studies-National Aeronautics and Space Administration (7SEAS-NASA) project which studies the propagation of haze in Southeast Asia.
He has also served as the government expert consultant on the development of urban planning guidelines against air pollution and extreme weather conditions.
During the 2003 severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) episode and the recent Covid pandemic, Professor Chan was one of the team leaders appointed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to research the dispersion of mechanisms of the respective virus in urban areas.
He is also a leading expert on recycled carbon fibres and its applications having studied them for more than 20 years. Professor Chan has successfully commercialised products, like heated garments, energy harvesters and delivery systems derived from carbon fibres, which have attracted lots of interest from industry and the media.
Professor Chan earned his Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of Hong Kong in 1993 and 1997 respectively. He is currently a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES) and a member of the American Society of Civil (ASCE).

搁骋鲍鈥檚 Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Steve Olivier has welcomed Prof Chan鈥檚 appointment to lead the School of Engineering.

搁骋鲍鈥檚 School of Engineering has been delivering education and research for the energy industries in North East Scotland for more than 50 years.
The first energy course, a Higher National Diploma in Engineering, was delivered by the school in 1971 but since then it has significantly evolved and offers programmes in energy transition, biomedical technology and subsea engineering.
The School of Engineering鈥檚 mission is to produce professional engineers with transferable skills and carry out research that meets the needs of industry with specific emphasis on energy, autonomous systems and design and manufacture.
