Aberdeen Business School host annual NIBES event

By Aberdeen Business School - 01 July 2024

Ƶ recently hosted the 28th annual meeting of the Network of International Business and Economics Schools (NIBES).

This is a global and influential network of 22 Business and Economics Schools in which Ƶ represents the UK. In attendance were partners from Taiwan, Germany, France, Indonesia, Portugal, Morocco, Slovenia, Poland, Denmark, Japan, Belgium, Georgia, Mexico, and the USA.

The University has been in this partnership since 2018 and in late June it proudly hosted Deans from partner international business schools to discuss research, internationalisation strategy, and to share new approaches and expertise around teaching and learning.

The NIBES network was founded in 1996 in Tours, France with the objective to promote internationalisation and to encourage an understanding of global contexts within business education. Transnational mobility of students and faculty as well as scholarly exchange between partner institutions are the main goals of the network.

As part of the annual workshop, Professor Paul de Leeuw presented a keynote presentation on the climate emergency, the energy transition and future opportunities for the higher education sector. This was followed by a showcase of the research activity by the two research groups within Aberdeen Business School - the Small Business and Enterprise group, and the Energy, Sustainability and Society research group.

Research discussions were then followed by strategic discussions around international challenges facing business schools.

Professor Vesna Žabkar, the Secretary General and Chari of the NIBES network said: “Our meeting in Aberdeen was very productive as we discussed current opportunities and issues for global exchange and worked on ideas for future projects that will enable our students, staff and researchers to gain international experience. Even the weather co-operated and we enjoyed sunny (and relatively warm) days in Aberdeen!”

Dr Simon Fraser, International Engagement Lead at Aberdeen Business School, who was involved in hosting the event, said: “The opportunity to host the NIBES conference in Aberdeen has allowed us to expand our global networks and provided opportunities for initiatives to support internationalisation.

“The NIBES network offers international expertise and has a mission that aligns with our strategy. Sharing knowledge with these partners improves intercontinental approaches to research and education and provides opportunity to enhance student and staff awareness of the benefits of international partnerships”.
