National Student Survey 2024: Everything you need to know

By Clara Maurillon - 31 January 2024

The National Student Survey (NSS) is launching on Monday 5 February for all undergraduate final-year students at ºìÐÓÊÓƵ to complete. Staff are encouraged to promote the survey to their students while the latter should consider filling it early for a chance to win one of five £100 Amazon vouchers! Learn more.

What is the National Student Survey?

The is carried out every year by the independent market research company Ipsos to collate students’ feedback about their university experience in UK institutions. It is open to all final year undergraduate students who can voluntarily fill it out. Doing so is widely encouraged as it provides them with a unique opportunity to honestly share their opinions about what they liked and what they thought could be improved at their university. Questions range from course experience and facilities to wellbeing support.

This year, we are launching the NSS at ºìÐÓÊÓƵ on Monday 5 February 2024, and will remain open until the official closure date of Tuesday 30 April 2024.

Why should students fill out the survey?

Students’ feedback via the NSS is extremely valuable and plays a key role in our institutional quality assurance and enhancement process. By knowing what we do well and what we need to work on, we can continue to strive to provide the best university experience possible to our current and future students.

All responses are anonymous, which gives students complete freedom over how they answer the questions in the survey.

On top of this, ºìÐÓÊÓƵ students who complete the survey online before Sunday 31 March will be able to enter a prize draw for a chance to win one of five £100 Amazon vouchers. The winners will be announced via our internal channels once the survey has closed.

How can students fill out the survey?

Eligible students will be sent a personalised invitation email and weblink during the week commencing Monday 5 February and will receive a series of reminder emails from Ipsos until they have completed the survey. Links to the online survey will also regularly be shared via ºìÐÓÊÓƵ channels such as The Bulletin and social media channels.

However, students can decide to . It should only take around 10-15 minutes to complete.

How can staff encourage students to complete the NSS?

While the NSS will be promoted by Ipsos and ºìÐÓÊÓƵ’s central channels, we know from experience that local promotion within the schools is often the most effective way to get students to answer the survey. We therefore encourage all staff working with final year undergraduate students to support us at launch and throughout the promotion process.

Make sure that any promotion you are undertaking adheres to . For example, students should not be encouraged to answer the survey questions any other way than by truly reflecting their opinion.
